Searching the Ben Hill County Court Docket
Ben Hill Superior Court cases live in PeachCourt. Georgia's E-Access directory is simply the signpost that points you there. The directory does not search anything itself. PeachCourt does, but only after you create an account. Its coverage covers electronic Superior Court case files and documents. It does not promise anything for Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, or Fitzgerald Municipal matters.
Gather your details before you start. A case number printed on a court notice is the best tool. Without one, use the party's full legal name, the likely court, the case type, and a rough filing year. Ben Hill's exact case-number format is not published. So copy the punctuation exactly as it appears on the source document rather than guessing at it.
- Open Georgia E-Access, follow the Ben Hill Superior link, and register or sign in to PeachCourt.
- Select Ben Hill County and Superior Court before entering the case number or party name.
- Match the parties and case type, then read status, proceedings, documents, and calendar events together.
- Confirm a hearing with the Clerk of Superior Court, especially when a notice and online event disagree.
- Ask the clerk for a plain or certified copy when the docket entry alone is not enough.
When a Ben Hill Docket Search Fails
A blank screen is not a final answer. Check the spelling, confirm you picked the right court, and run the exact case number once more, since indexing sometimes lags a new filing. Then question the jurisdiction itself. Small civil claims and warrant proceedings often sit in Magistrate Court, estates and guardianships in Probate Court, and city citations with Fitzgerald Municipal Court. Older paper files and restricted matters simply never appear online.
Fallback chain: call the likely court, visit its counter, or send a focused request naming the parties, case type, date range, and desired document. The county contact directory lists the local offices.
Inside a Ben Hill County Court Docket
Think of a docket as an index with a timeline attached. It is not the whole case file. In PeachCourt you may see the assigned judge, the current status, parties or co-defendants, attorneys, charges, dispositions, calendar events, proceedings, and linked documents. Remember that each charge can carry its own result. A disposition date may not match the arrest, filing, or sentencing date.
| Case Number | The court's identifier; copy it exactly because the local format is not published on the open access page. |
|---|---|
| Parties | People or entities and their procedural roles; criminal co-defendants may require selecting the right person. |
| Docket Entries / Filings | Dated events such as complaints, indictments, motions, returns, orders, and judgments. |
| Hearing Settings | Calendar events that may include date and setting type; verify the current time and place with the court. |
| Court & Judge | The tribunal and assigned judicial officer, useful for routing a calendar or transcript question. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome. Read count-level results rather than relying only on an overall status. |
Ben Hill Dockets and Certified Copies
The event list tells you what was filed and when. A filed image gives you the actual words of a complaint, indictment, motion, order, or judgment. A certified copy goes one step further and carries the clerk's authentication.
Pin down the dated entry before you order anything. PeachCourt's terms list the costs. eAccess purchases run $2 per document plus $0.50 per page. A 3.5% and $0.30 convenience fee applies when the session closes. A purchased vendor image is still not automatically a certified court copy. For Superior records, ask Kimberly Newell's office. They can tell you whether inspection, a plain copy, or certification fits your need. For a transcript, identify the judge and the hearing date. Then request the court reporter's contact, because the docket is not a verbatim account of testimony.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Ben Hill County
Ben Hill County splits its dockets among several offices. Jurisdiction follows the case type and its stage. Superior Court is the general-jurisdiction court within the Cordele Judicial Circuit. Magistrate takes smaller civil matters and preliminary criminal work. Probate handles estates and designated citations. Fitzgerald Municipal Court, meanwhile, handles city misdemeanor citations and code cases.
| Court | Docket Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| Superior Court | Felonies, divorce and equity, land title, and major civil cases | PeachCourt, then Clerk of Superior Court |
| Magistrate Court | Civil claims through $15,000, dispossessories, garnishments, warrants, and bond hearings | Magistrate clerk; eFileGA is a filing route |
| Probate Court | Estates, guardianships, and Sheriff/GSP/DNR/DPS citations | Georgia Probate Records or Probate clerk |
| Fitzgerald Municipal Court | City misdemeanor citations and code enforcement | Municipal clerk; nCourt is payment only |
| Juvenile Court | Delinquency, dependency, and other juvenile matters | Authorized access through the Superior Clerk |
Four Ben Hill Docket Paths
One clerk can wear two hats. The Superior Clerk also serves Juvenile Court. That does not make every Ben Hill record a Superior case. The direct numbers are Superior at (229) 426-5135, Magistrate at (229) 426-5140, Probate at (229) 426-5137, and Fitzgerald Municipal at (229) 426-5004. The payment sites do narrower jobs. eFileGA accepts Magistrate filings. EZ CourtPay handles eligible Probate citations, and FitzgeraldTix redirects payable city matters to nCourt.
Read the court name on the citation, pleading, or notice first. A filing portal is not necessarily a public docket. A payment receipt is not the chronological court record.
Ben Hill Court Dates and Settings
The Superior Clerk compiles civil, criminal, and arraignment calendars. PeachCourt may also display calendar events inside a case. Read any setting together with the case number, court, judge, event type, date, time, and location. Continuances and resets stay in the history; they never erase the earlier entry.
Trust the newest signed notice or order and confirm it with the hearing court. When no standalone daily calendar is posted, the Ben Hill County court dates page explains the local fallback chain.
Helene and the Ben Hill Court Calendar
Storm Helene left a mark on the Ben Hill court calendar. A Cordele Circuit judicial emergency order closed the Ben Hill courthouse on September 27, 2024. It also tolled affected schedules and deadlines. The official emergency-order archive stays useful. It explains why an older notice or docket event may not reflect the final operative date.
Emergency tolling, an ordinary continuance, and a cancellation are three different things. When dates conflict, keep every notice. Check the chronological docket, and ask the correct clerk which order controls. Never assume a closure dismissed the case. The official county page shows how Ben Hill's court system is organized.
The county page also confirms that Fitzgerald is the county's only incorporated city. That detail matters when you are choosing between a city court and a county court for your docket search.
Public Access to Ben Hill Court Dockets
Georgia court records are generally open under court-specific statutes and rules. The Georgia Open Records Act, though, does not govern Superior, State, Probate, and Magistrate courts the way it governs ordinary agencies. So send a judicial-record request to the clerk who maintains the case, not to the Board of Commissioners' open-records channel by default.
Key Rules:
Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 - Superior records remain public unless law and a sufficiently specific court order limit access.
O.C.G.A. § 15-6-61(a)(8) - the Superior Clerk keeps civil and criminal dockets available for public inspection subject to lawful restrictions.
O.C.G.A. § 9-11-7.1 - public civil filings use shortened identifiers to protect sensitive personal information.
Georgia Open Records guidance - court files follow judicial access law and should be requested from their clerks.
Ben Hill Docket Access Beyond Online Records
Not every public file is available with a click. Some require counter inspection or a copy request because they are older, not digitized, or missing a purchasable image. The flip side also holds. A visible docket label does not create a right to view a sealed filing. Juvenile, adoption, and military-discharge records are identified locally as unavailable to the general public. Protected civil identifiers should be shortened. Rule 21 can seal only the defined material, for a stated reason and duration.
Georgia criminal-history restriction under O.C.G.A. ยง 35-3-37 is something different from whole-file sealing. A missing online result can reflect the wrong court, delay, paper storage, or restriction. It cannot establish that a case never existed.
Ben Hill Magistrate Fees Changed in 2026
Ben Hill County's Magistrate Court posted a new price list that took effect in July 2026. It applies only to that court. Superior, Probate, and Municipal filings follow their own schedules. Under the Magistrate list, a civil action with service on one defendant runs $115. A dispossessory filing costs $90, and executing a writ of possession adds $25. The law also allows a technology fee of up to $5 on civil filings and fines. Before you pay, ask the clerk for the current total. The statute permits the charge. But it does not tell you exactly how it appears on each transaction.
| Magistrate item | Published amount |
|---|---|
| Plain copy | $0.25 per page |
| Certified copy | $2.50 |
| Certified order | $14 |
| Garnishment with garnishee service | $115 |
Check the official Magistrate Court page for the current price list and the eFileGA link. Ask the clerk about service, added-defendant, and re-service charges before you file anything. A Superior certified copy is priced separately. Call the Superior Clerk for its own quote rather than borrowing the Magistrate schedule.
Ben Hill Docket Records at the Clerk
The Superior Court Clerk, Kimberly M. Newell, holds the county's civil, criminal, real-estate, and Juvenile records. She also builds the civil, criminal, and arraignment calendars. You can request Ben Hill County court records at the counter, by phone, or by mail. PeachCourt also serves covered electronic Superior material. Ask up front about availability, cost, and delivery. Also confirm whether you need a certified copy. The published Magistrate fees do not apply to Superior copies.

The 1909 Courthouse and Split Offices
Ben Hill County was created in 1906, and its Neoclassical courthouse went up in 1909. The National Park Service notes a 1974 renovation and a 1980 National Register listing. The offices inside are spread out today. The Superior Clerk sits at 115 South Sheridan, while Magistrate sits at 402 East Pine. Probate is at 111 South Sheridan, and Municipal Court holds court on City Hall's second floor at 302 East Central.
That split matters whenever a docket search online comes up empty. Go to the office that owns the case. Treat the old courthouse as four separate records counters, not one. The official Probate Court page shows this separate route:
Probate records and designated traffic citations move through their own channel, apart from the Superior material in PeachCourt.
State Docket or Federal PACER?
PeachCourt and the Ben Hill clerks handle Georgia trial-court work only. Federal district and bankruptcy cases arising in Ben Hill County sit in the Middle District of Georgia's Albany Division. You reach them through PACER or CM/ECF. Neither system searches the other.
Registering for PACER costs nothing. During 2026, pages run $0.10 each. Most case-specific documents and docket reports cap at $3, and quarterly bills of $30 or less are waived entirely. Terminal access inside the courthouse can be free, and some opinions are too. RECAP offers contributed copies, but it is incomplete and never the official record.
The official PACER source lays out the federal search and registration route:
PACER is the federal access service nationwide. The Middle District CM/ECF endpoint covers filings and records for this district alone:
The Middle District of Georgia serves Ben Hill County, with Albany as its relevant division:
For free contributed material, RECAP can supplement but not replace PACER.
Always obtain certification from the federal clerk when an authenticated copy is required.
Ben Hill Court Data Has Limits
The Georgia AOC data hub publishes class-level dashboards built on self-reported caseload counts. Its embedded interface does not yield verified Ben Hill filing and clearance totals. The CDX dashboard is narrower by design. It counts disposition transmissions tied to Offender Tracking Numbers, refreshes every 60 days, and lets you filter by county and court class. It cannot locate an individual case. So treat it as something other than a filing count. The FY2024 annual-report page adds statewide context:
Use these statistics to understand the court system, never as a stand-in for looking up a named case.
Ben Hill County Court Dockets by City
Fitzgerald is the only incorporated city in Ben Hill County. Its Municipal Court keeps misdemeanor-citation and code-enforcement records for matters arising inside the city limits. Felonies and general-jurisdiction cases start in Superior Court. Designated Sheriff, GSP, DNR, or DPS citations go to Probate Court instead. Check the court printed on your notice. That name controls where the first lookup happens.

Map and Directions to the Ben Hill County Clerk of Superior Court
Superior civil, criminal, real-estate, and Juvenile files are kept at the Ben Hill County Clerk of Superior Court, 115 South Sheridan Street, in Fitzgerald. This counter sits apart from the county's 1909 Neoclassical courthouse a block away at 111 South Sheridan, which houses Probate Court instead; a September 2024 judicial-emergency order treated the whole Sheridan Street complex as the courthouse serving Superior, Probate, Magistrate, and Juvenile functions, but the docket geography is genuinely split by office. Bring a case number and specify civil, criminal, or Juvenile before asking staff to pull a file.
